Glass Ankle return with new single: 'For Another Day'

Release Date: 24th July 2020
Label: Sleeper Train (own label).

Manchester / Cheshire (UK) dreamy indie-folkers, Glass Ankle are back with their first new song in 3 years. 'For Another Day' was completed during what seemed like an endless amount of days confined indoors as a result of lockdown. Although this year has undoubtedly proven very difficult for everyone, it has at least allowed the group's main songwriter, Greg, to find renewed passion and focus for his musical project, as can be heard in this brand new track.

The main lyrical theme of 'For Another Day' is an undeniable urge to flee a situation that is becoming increasingly unbearable: to "leave it all to just decay another day" and find peace in doing something much more enjoyable and gratifying. The song's artwork playfully mirrors this sentiment, juxtaposing the highly undesirable prospect of a mountain of washing up with a view of an inviting sunny day outside the window.

Along with catchy guitar hooks, crisp glockenspiel, and lush synth pads, the exquisite vocal harmonies which have become a signature of Glass Ankle's sound are fully represented. That said, the song manages to avoid becoming predictable by providing inventive and alluring lyrical and sonic surprises throughout. One example of this is heard during the middle 8, where Chika, the band's Japanese keyboardist and backing vocalist, pops up and recites a ghostly Haiku to send shivers down the spine of the listener.

'For Another Day' was recorded and mixed by Greg at home and at Cutthroat Studio 2.0, Stockport. It will be available for consumption on all major streaming and download platforms from Friday 24th July 2020.

A musical project that started with a suitcase full of songs inspired by a year spent living and travelling in Japan. Glass Ankle’s sound has since become renowned for encompassing soaring melodies, impeccable harmonies, oozing guitar & synth passages, and subtle experimentalism.

Now in their tenth year, the collective has gained an impressive reputation for captivating live performances and recordings which have led to comparisons with a diverse range of artists, including Yo La Tengo, Beach House, Gomez, Tunng, Belle and Sebastian, and ’13-era’ Blur. In turn they have earned national airplay on both BBC 6Music and XFM, and have been championed by BBC Introducing in Manchester.

Glass Ankle has recieved .. Having released 4 standalone singles and 3 EPs to date, including the Fragments EP in 2014 which was met with wide critical acclaim, more long-awaited new music is coming in 2020 and beyond.

Glass Ankle are: Greg Jackson (songs, vocals, guitars, production, etc), Chika Woodward (keys, backing vocals, glockenspiel), Danny Shaw (drums), and Joel Keers (bass).
