Something Borrowed… …Nothing Blue.
It’s been some time since folk had more to it than banjos. Borrowed Body looks to bring that back.
The debut album from London based Niall Hill, known as Borrowed Body is a triumph of style, an effortlessly beautiful record that takes something that Nick Drake started and brings it right up to the modern day. Recorded primarily in a cupboard in North London, “The Rising Sea,” uses its folk base to expand the sound. There are elements of (very) early Coldplay in here, some musically unsettling moments in the vein of Nirvana and of course, the haunting yet melodic tones of Drake and Jeff Buckley.
While many would find this a very melancholy record, there is something about the vocal prowess of Hill that lifts the mood without needing to overstate its importance. The mix of instrumentation and samples that create these tracks mingle wonderfully together, no single element used in vain. The songs here have, “…a real sense of airy wonderment swirling around them,” (The Crack Magazine) and that sense of wonderment breathes throughout the 7 tracks on show.
While many of the current crop of folk artists are finding that going traditional is their way of gaining success at the expense of their art, Borrowed Body is writing alternative folk that has more of a place in this loud and cluttered world than ever. This is an album that is one to relax to, unwind to and above all, savour.

Dennis McCalmont

Dennis McCalmont is a Singer/Songwriter and #Live & #Acoustic Musician from Ireland.
He is currently recording a New Album for 2018...Highlights In Heaven is a #newmusic track from that Album...this Song is hopeful in the thought that we may All meet again one day, on the other side...

One of The Joys of Modern Life is having the Musical Technology available to allow Four Musicians to go into a Room for Three Days and Record An Album... Now that's just Brilliant!
However the content of The Dennis McCalmont Band's latest offering takes a more 'tongue in cheek' look at The Joys Of Modern Life.
The Album kicks off with 'Best Days Of My Life' in a rush to get ready for the Day ahead!
We're living in a very uncertain World right now and McCalmont's Lyrics seem to be right on Point, he addresses this from a Personal perspective on 'Pure' he laments 'Once I Was Uncertain, but now I'm not so sure..' and from the bigger picture 'Your Life could change in a moment' on 'Nature Of Life', and no one could argue that the Global Landscape has certainly changed recently, leaving us all a bit more insecure about our future.
