Our House, in The Woods, MN
and fans looking for fresh, never-heard “classic
rock” music have just found it. Texas Highway
Roadkill Music (a division of Lockard Direct
Marketing, Inc., Houston, Texas), is proud to
announce a previously unreleased box set of original
music from the early 70’s. “Classic rock lovers will
appreciate the reflections of some of their favorite
The band's name is the address of the infamous party
house where they lived and recorded: Our House, Lake
of the Woods, MN. Billed as an "international garage
band" (from Indonesia, Haiti, and 5 States) that
formed on the Canadian/U.S. border in the early
70's, the band decided to finish the songs, and for
the first time release an entire box set of what
they had written and recorded then. "We felt there
are quite a few songs here that the world should
have access to,” state band members and songwriters,
Rick Stinson and Ron Sterlekar.
Three of the six tapes (now on CDs), were recently
rediscovered after 40+ years in Los Angeles and
Houston. Now known as The Lost Tapes series (Volumes
4, 5 & 6), they were remixed and produced in
Houston, TX, with additional musicians also
contributing and adding “Some amazing stuff”.
Having no record label, there were no rules. But
because of how they were originally recorded (on 2-
and 4-track recorders), and after decades of sitting
in storage units, the songs definitely have that
‘garage band’ raw edge about them.
In the 70’s, the band tried out new material in
Winnipeg, Manitoba, recorded it, forgot about it…and
immediately started writing new stuff. The original
recordings are now combined with new and cleaner
tracks. “These albums are definitely for listeners
who like exciting guitar solos,” says Stinson.
“We wrote and recorded much more than the initial 3
albums after we left Minnesota…and continued to
write and improve as songwriters and producers,”
adds Sterlekar. “The music covers the gamut from
hard rock to bluesy love songs…and a bit of
psychedelic. Most songs contain some very inspired
guitar riffs. We feel there are some rock classics
in here.” Stinson: “We believe the songs now sound
the way they were originally ‘supposed’ to sound.
Hopefully bands, looking for new and unexposed
material, will make them even better.”
The focus will be on introducing the last three
albums (The Lost Tapes), particularly Volumes 4 and
5 which are Welcome to The Party, Part One and Part
Two. They also include a few remixes and live cuts
from the three earlier albums.
“No record company was ever going to find us in that
immense wilderness.” But it makes you wonder what
could have been if they had been found.
