Kansas City based band: Dinsdale
Our lead singer Jeff Stalnaker being from the UK, the band name arose from a chat about the funniest things to come out of England, with Monty Python topping the list. Enough said - the name stuck.
We're inspired by Midnight Oil, The Pixies, The Who, The Replacements, Oasis, and Ryan Adams, not sure if our sound comes close to any of them to be honest.
We've had moderate radio play on college stations around the Midwest, including Kansas State University student radio. We were profiled on the former FM station, Alice 102.1, in Kansas City in November 2013....and recently played a gig at a Kansas City Chiefs/Raiders football game.
We may be the only band who practices in the back of a sporting goods store. We frequently kick shoe boxes out of the way to set up our gear. As a perk, we practice about 50 ft from a little dive bar called the Keyhole. Many songs go unfinished and practices are cut short to eat peanuts, drink cheap beer and talk music, sports and politics.
The one constant is that the practice door is always left open, so the music is heard up and down the street. More often than not, random strangers walk into a practice, like what they hear, and become fans of the band! Sometimes random police officers walk in , too. Must be the noise.
We began collaborating with Kansas City engineer, Joel Nanos @ Element Recording in early 2014 on the conception of the album. We followed his guidance to create an album that captures our bare bones guitar driven sound, nothing fancy and nothing more than that.
Lennon Bone, formerly of Bloodshot Records artist, HaHa Tonka, contributed additional recording assistance throughout the album and also jumped in on various
songs for extra tambourine and "clap" tracks. We we're pushed and physically challenged by Joel during the recording process, but in the end, we had a great time making this album!
We recently got a nice write up in the UK site, Record Rewind Play (surprised the shit out of us, to be honest). I can't quite place what this track, from Dinsdale's debut album Mission 56, reminds me of. Answers on a postcard, please. Something in that little guitar moment out of the
chorus, or the solo perhaps.. Recordrewindplay site
