Bathurst Station

Toronto rock-duet band Bathurst Station unveiled its sound with a video for its cover of “You’re The One That I Want,” from the musical Grease. Their campy performance clip received more than 120,000 views on YouTube and comments like “You guys are SO freaking amazing” and “You guys should be more popular.” The introduction garnered a fan-base around the world — 500,000+ channel plays that lead to Google Play featuring the band on Facebook and Twitter in Oct 2015 — ready to embrace their self-titled full-length debut of 10 original songs, including the single “Broken.” The band also started doing regular gigs on Toronto's Queen Street club circuit.
Modelling the male-female call-answer vocal play on Meatloaf’s “Paradise By The Dashboard Light” and the storyline on concept albums like Pink Floyd’s The Wall and The Who’s Tommy, Bathurst Station is a touring rock band with a concept.
Produced by the band’s guitarist/backing vocalist Ted Sevdalis and mixed by award-winning David Bendeth (Paramore, Of Mice and Men, Papa Roach), the story behind the album is a breakup. Every track is a duet, a conversation between the sexes that advances the healing process, tapping into every emotion one goes through when severing a relationship from opening tracks “Breaking My Heart” and “Broken” to the closers “Dead & Buried” and “Lost.”
But what makes Bathurst Station’s breakup album unique is people won’t listen to it to wallow in self-pity; they will feel empowered, better about things — because the two people in this narrative just drifted apart. By the album finale, both parties feel OK, knowing it was not meant to be and the breakup was for the best. “I hope that people will connect with it and we can help some people,” says co-vocalist Rachael Richards. “It’s a universal story. If you haven’t gone through a breakup, then you’re probably still 12 years old.”
Joining Sevdalis and Richards on the album are co-vocalist Adrian Ross, keyboardist/backing vocalist Lindsay Clark, bassist Jen Benton and drummer Brad Park. The members who all live near Bathurst Station were thrilled to land a place in BlogTO’s top 10 bands named after Toronto, and equally pumped to win Jack Daniels’ supporting act competition (decided by public vote), which provided funds to help them get to the UK to tour in May 2015.
