Artist's Biography
Cybophonia
is the brainchild of Eros Minichiello, a musician, producer, and DJ based in
the Italian-speaking area of Switzerland. In addition to creating
soundtracks for films, TV, and radio, he has released records with the
Italian label Irma Records, including the self-titled album "Cybophonia"
(2000), two 12" EPs - 'Azona Pop' (2001) and 'Cut & Paste' (2002) -, along
with several singles and remixes. One notable remix, Black Mighty
Orchestra’s "Ocean Beach," became a true anthem of the 'Chillout' genre. The
CD 'Vostok Jazz', released at the end of 2003 by the Japanese label
Hipnologie Recordings, is a selection of Cybophonia's early works from 1999
to 2003.
After spending several years DJing at prestigious events, including the
Locarno Film Festival, Mostra del Cinema di Venezia, and Chiasso Jazz
Festival, Eros joined forces with Swiss electronic composer Florin Maasz in
2005 to form the electro-lounge duo Centovalley. Together, they released the
album 'August', which gained attention when several tracks were used by
Swiss Public Television (RSI) as soundtracks for various shows.
In 2007 Cybophonia released the EP 'Slide In', and in 2014 the album
'Spinning', two eclectic collections of downtempo, nu-jazz, nu-disco, house,
lounge, and pop.
After a hiatus, 2021 marked Cybophonia's return with the singles 'Without
Delay', 'Shine Out', and 'Tomorrow', culminating in the release of the album
'Bloom' on June 11, 2021. The new material reflected Eros's desire to
navigate a radically transformed music landscape, revisiting his roots with
an organic approach to songwriting. He incorporated his voice, acoustic and
electric guitars, and reduced his reliance on digital production, moving
away from EDM to embrace his enduring passion for indie guitar pop.
Following the release of 'Bloomed (Remixes & Outtakes)' in 2022, a
collection of remixes and unreleased tracks, Cybophonia returns in 2024 with
the album 'Nothing More', released on September 13. This latest work
highlights the dream-pop sound introduced in 'Bloom', adding a folk-rock
twist, as heard in the singles 'The Dark Side of Our Minds' and 'Sunday
Travel Round' released in spring 2024. While the acoustic elements remain
central, the album sound also delves into electronic influences, revisiting
the diverse sonic elements that characterized Cybophonia’s earlier works.
About the Album
"Nothing More" consists of 13 tracks that offer significant insight into
Cybophonia's ongoing creative endeavors and the different approaches he has
adopted over the years. This new album is an ambitious project of creation
and artistic reinvention, which began in 2021 with the album Bloom. The
artist's trademark dream-pop sound, introduced in Bloom and reinterpreted
with a folk-rock twist in the singles "The Dark Side of Our Minds" and
"Sunday Travel Round" released last spring, is now central to the
Cybophonia's vision and is a key element of most tracks on Nothing More. The
album offers a richly kaleidoscopic yet cohesive experience, featuring
acoustic riffs and guitar arpeggios that have become a signature of
Cybophonia's refreshed style.
Some tracks are further enhanced with electric guitars that take center
stage, yet maintain a refined, minimalist nuance that allows for tasteful
restraint. Despite the minimalistic tone, the guitars add atmosphere and
color to the songs, complemented by synth layers, as in the moving ballad
"These Walls," and samples, such as in the opening track "Inspired by
Angels," which gains an epic touch with an unexpected string section halfway
through.
The album's eclectic yet coherent nature is highlighted by tracks like the
Italian song "Arma a Doppio Taglio," the instrumental "Northern Light," and
the aforementioned "These Walls." Although all three tracks are based on
bossa nova-style guitar lines, they explore different genres, from pop to
chillout to folk-rock. Further showcasing Cybophonia's versatility is the
new single "Resurrected Love," a primarily electronic dream-pop song that
surprisingly incorporates hard rock electric guitar riffs in the chorus.
Other moments of inspiration include the dreamy Italian ballad with
swing-jazz influences, "La Polvere delle Nuvole," the increasingly
psychedelic acoustic guitar arpeggios of “Keep Breathing,” the electronic
drum and bass rhythms of "Pluto Breeze," and the hip-hop beats of "Old Skool
Prayer." These last two instrumental tracks, along with the previously
mentioned "Northern Light" and "Rocco Freeway Master," remained unreleased
for several years and were not available for streaming, but have now been
specially reworked for this release.

the release of the "Bloomed" compilation in December 2022 and nearly three
years after the album "Bloom", Eros Minichiello, the one-man band behind the
Cybophonia project, returns with a new single.
"The Dark Side of Our Minds" is a pop song with acoustic sounds, infused
with synth arpeggios and electronic effects. The track is characterized by
acoustic guitar tones with intricate vocals and subtle electronic
embellishments, linking it to the dreampop sounds of more recent works,
while also evoking the chillout atmospheres of early Cybophonia.
This first release will be followed by a second single, set to be released
in mid-May, in anticipation of a new album scheduled for September.
