Daphnie

Artist's Biography

Daphnie writes like someone who has lived three lifetimes before turning twenty‑five. Her songs feel handwritten in the margins of old notebooks—half‑confession, half‑challenge—where vulnerability and defiance sit side by side. Born with a storyteller’s instinct and a restless creative pulse, she stitches together indie folk, bedroom pop, and soft‑grunge textures into something unmistakably her own: warm, raw, and quietly rebellious.

Her voice carries that rare duality—gentle enough to soothe, sharp enough to cut. She doesn’t hide the messiness of becoming; she leans into it. Every track feels like a snapshot of a moment she refused to let slip away: the late‑night conversations, the impulsive decisions, the heartbreaks that taught her more than any classroom ever could. Daphnie’s music is a map of emotional growing pains, drawn with honesty and a little bit of mischief.

What sets her apart is her ability to turn personal chaos into communal clarity. She writes for anyone who has ever felt too much, too soon, and wondered if that intensity was a flaw or a gift. In her world, it’s both—and that’s exactly why it resonates.

About the Album

“The Reckless Act of Growing Up” is Daphnie’s coming‑of‑age record, but not the polished, nostalgic kind. This album is the unfiltered version—the one with scraped knees, impulsive choices, and the quiet victories nobody else noticed. It’s a soundtrack for the years when everything feels urgent, fragile, and strangely beautiful.

Across the album, she explores the emotional turbulence of early adulthood: the friendships that shift without warning, the relationships that burn bright and fade fast, the moments of self‑doubt that somehow lead to self‑discovery. The production mirrors that journey—lo‑fi edges, warm guitars, soft synths, and vocals that feel close enough to touch.

Each song is a chapter in the messy, necessary process of becoming someone new. Some tracks ache, some glow, some laugh at the absurdity of it all. Together, they form a portrait of growth that isn’t linear or graceful—but honest, brave, and deeply human.

“The Reckless Act of Growing Up” is not just an album; it’s a reminder that the mistakes, the leaps of faith, and the reckless moments are often the ones that shape us the most.

Artist's Biography

Professionally sensitive, Daphnie is the alter ego of Sydney drummer and producer Alistair Hayes. After finishing a degree in jazz performance, the self proclaimed “jazz nerd” renounced his education in the name of alternative pop, starting his solo project and starring as half of the duo youproblem.

Daphnie produces unusual but fun soundscapes to support catchy pop melodies, pulling lyrically understated metaphors from his personal relationships. Daphnie has honed his songwriting skills by writing music with and playing drums/percussion for artists such as The Veronicas, Lastlings, Daily J,Caleb Nott (Broods), Ivoris, Tiffi, Cody Jon, Foley, RIIKI REID, The Buoys, George Alice, Carla Wehbe, and heaps more.

After realising that being behind the drums isn’t the only thing he wants to do on stage, the drummer turned producer/songwriter started writing his own music, blending elements of pop and rock in a far from ‘pop rock’ way. Daphnie has supported Aussie icons like Last Dinosaurs, and MAY-A, toured with Loretta, and his debut mixtape has received radio airplay on Triple J Radio, Triple J Unearthed, with music videos landing on RAGE and MTV.

Daphnie is consistently pushing his music out into the world, so go get into it xx.
