Artist's Biography
Talking
To Sophie is the alt-pop / singer-songwriter project of German musician
Marcel Krell from Hohenfinow (near Eberswalde, Brandenburg). Founded in
2015, the name has stood for emotional, melody-driven songs situated between
alt-pop, folk, and alternative, characterized by honest lyrics, warm
arrangements, and a clear artistic signature.
After earlier experiences in bands, Krell deliberately chose a solo project
in order to work in a more independent and personal way. The project name
“Talking To Sophie” originates from a deeply personal source of inspiration:
Sophie, the artist’s dog, became a silent listener during the songwriting
process — a symbol of intimacy, reflection, and openness.
Musically, Talking To Sophie blends catchy pop melodies with acoustic
guitars, subtle electronic elements, and an often introspective, emotional
atmosphere. Influences from indie, folk, and Americana are just as present
as modern pop structures.
The songs revolve around interpersonal relationships, inner conflicts, hope,
loss, and connection.
Over the past years, Talking To Sophie has released several albums and
singles, including Oh Ridge Cabin Hymns, Old Mother Road Anthems, and In
Technicolor, all of which reflect his stylistic versatility and continuous
artistic growth. The music is largely DIY-produced and places a strong
emphasis on authenticity rather than trends.
2026 marks a special milestone:
Six new albums are scheduled for release throughout the year, each
highlighting different facets of his musical work and setting distinct
thematic and sonic focuses. With this unusually extensive release year,
Talking To Sophie underlines his creative productivity and his commitment to
music as an ongoing, honest form of expression.
About the Album:
Akai Ito primarily deals with grief. “Music helped me process the loss of my
son. After months of feeling directionless, picking up the guitar marked the
beginning of that healing process.”

About the Album
An album originally written and recorded in 2010. During the first
covid lockdown, I listened a lot to all of my old music and
developed the idea to rerecord my first solo album which was
released under the moniker of "Technicolor" - most of the songs are
way different to there original versions, but still recognizable as
there counterparts.
