Artist's Biography

The Smokin’ Jays are a 3-piece Alternative Rock, Blues, Funk, and all around trippy band from Memphis, Tennessee. The band formed in 2018 from a collection of renowned, passionate, live performers who met while teaching music at a local School Of Rock.

Jeff Pruitt (Guitar/Vocals/Keys): A guitar prodigy, Jeff has been playing blues and rock on world famous Beale Street since his early teens. A graduate of Stax Academy, Jeff is a singer-songwriter and session musician.

Jason Vawter (Drums/Electronics/Vocals): A two-decade veteran of the Memphis music scene, Jason is a drummer, percussionist, and teacher. He has appeared on over a dozen albums since 2009, including recordings at the legendary Sun Studio. Outside of music, he has appeared in the NBC TV show Bluff City Law and has a background in theater acting.

Todd Sims (Bass/Keys/Vocals): With a background in classical music, Todd has written and recorded several film scores, produced studio recordings and performed musical theater. He has been rockin’ the Memphis scene since 1994.

The Smokin’ Jays brand has appeared in local print, radio and TV advertisements affiliated with events. Their fan-base has grown locally as well as nationally.

The band has also appeared on the Radio Memphis program, The Live Music Hour with Tundrea and Gerald, delighting listeners around the world.

Live shows include originals, one-of-a-kind covers, rock, alternative, blues, hip-hop and more!

The Jays are currently working on their first LP due out this year.
