With the
album: Better
Late Than Never
Artist's Biography
Born
in Nottingham in 1969 but raised and still living in Lincolnshire since I
was 4yrs old, my musical journey began back in the late 70’s early 80’s
listening to The Osmond’s, Bay City Rollers and onto Adam Ant, Madness,
Blondie and realising that music was going to play a big part of my life
although then solely as a listener.
The first time I realised I had a voice was when my music teacher pointed me
out, while singing God Rest You Merry Gentlemen, saying to a rather bored
class “I never knew you could sing” and that’s all I needed.
1987 saw me joining my first band, Savoir Faire (later to be Club ’87),
based in Skegness and every Thursday we would perform a 45min slot on a
stage at the ice-skating rink at Harrisons above the cellar rehearsal space
we used. This was my introduction into being in a band and I loved every
minute of it with band mates Lee, Darren, Rob and our ever-present drum
machine.
It was a great year and I learnt so much from these lads.
Fast forward to 1992 and together with Graza, Rog, Rich and Justin I formed
“Watershed” We were together for just over 2 years and played around
Lincolnshire and a few memorable gigs further afield while writing half a
dozen original songs, a couple that I honestly think still stand up well
today.
In 1996, I met a local comedian/singer performer who earnt his living on the
club circuit up and down the country and he persuaded me that I could make a
living doing the same, so typical me thinking “of course I can do that’ I
went out and got the equipment and set off on my club career.
In 2003, after some amazing gigs, and meeting some of the very best people
I’ve ever known I decided to quit and go back into my business with my
partner Katy, which we started back in 1992.
And for the next 17 years that’s where I stayed, playing in a few different
bands working alongside Rog (Blodgey) on several different musical projects
and putting together my own George Michael Tribute Show which I’m still very
proud of.
Enter 2020 and everything changed.
CO-VID Pandemic set in and the world changed overnight, but as everywhere
and everything went into lockdown I saw and grabbed the opportunity. I had
not written a song for almost 25 years and found I had all this spare time
to really concentrate on my own music again…at the grand old age of 50, some
would say why bother, that ship has definitely sailed, and they could be
right but I had to do it, I had to get these out of my head and record them
and that’s exactly what I’ve done. With the help, and I will be forever
grateful, of Chris Clyburn, Ben Whelan and Al Croft I started putting
together a collection of my own songs and this has resulted in this album.
If my music journey ends here then so be it, but it’s been one hell of a
ride and I wouldn’t change a thing.
